An eligible spouse or unmarried child under 21 may qualify as a derivative, subject to applicable relationship and child-age-protection rules. A parent needs an independent assessment of any route available. A donor’s financial role should not be confused with the principal investor’s eligible family group. For immigrant-visa travel, eligible derivatives must enter with or after the principal. Birth certificates showing place of birth for every family member, current passports, marriage and any divorce records, and evidence of prior immigration filings that might already carry a priority date. Where a child is within a few years of twenty-one, the age calculation should be obtained early and revisited whenever the plan slips, because a postponement made for ordinary business reasons can quietly change a family member's outcome.
