THE SHORT ANSWER

A St.-Charles permanent resident may be asked to obtain Canadian records for a professional offer. Clarify citizenship at the outset so evidence work serves a category actually available to the applicant.

01

Distinguish immigration residence from nationality

TN principals must be Canadian or Mexican citizens. A Canadian permanent resident card, Canadian diploma or long employment history cannot supply missing citizenship. If Mexican citizenship is held, review the Mexican procedure rather than assuming the Canadian visa-exempt TN admission process applies.

02

Ask what the employer is proposing

Obtain actual duties and employment terms before ordering unrelated credentials. An L-1 transfer requires its own qualifying company relationship, foreign year and U.S. role. E-2 requires relevant treaty nationality and enterprise ownership, capital and development-and-direction conditions. These alternatives do not become available merely because an employer calls the applicant Canadian.

03

Correct the assumption before commitments accumulate

Use accurate current nationality in communications and identify any genuine future change as pending. A requested school record or company start date does not establish work permission. Household members also need individual review; do not extend an employer’s mistaken citizenship assumption to their travel or employment.

A CONVERSATION IS A GOOD PLACE TO START.
