Read the general professional work overview
A Nairn and Hyman professional considering another US engagement should identify what the existing authorization covers and what the additional proposal requires. The first employer’s letter is not a general work permit.
Describe the second activity accurately
Obtain the actual employer, duties, remuneration and temporary period. TN requires Canadian or Mexican citizenship and qualifying work in a listed USMCA profession with its specific credentials. A technical sales assignment does not become engineering merely because the applicant’s first job is engineering. Resolve the substance before asking for a different title.
Use credentials without assuming every profession has the same rule
Match genuine qualifications to the proposed profession. Experience is not a universal degree substitute; degrees from institutions outside Canada, Mexico and the United States require a reliable foreign-credential evaluation, with translation and licensing questions assessed separately. Disclose US recipient ownership: services to an entity solely owned or controlled by the applicant are prohibited TN self-employment. A foreign business interest alone is not the same bar.
Plan the additional authorization
Canadians generally may seek TN admission without a TN visa, while Mexicans generally need one. The appropriate admission or petition process for adding work depends on the existing facts. Confirm the required step before the second assignment begins. A second contract, a new invoice or a trip connected with the first employer does not automatically authorize the additional work.
