Read the general eligibility basics overview
A Sables-Spanish Rivers resident’s address may appear on every employer document without establishing Canadian citizenship. Confirm the nationality actually held before a company assumes it can use the Canadian TN process.
Read the identity record directly
TN principal eligibility requires Canadian or Mexican citizenship. Canadian permanent residence, work experience or education cannot replace it. A pending citizenship application is not a completed nationality change. If Mexican citizenship is available, assess the procedure attached to that citizenship rather than treating the Canadian address as the deciding fact.
Clarify which other facts still need assessment
A qualifying nationality does not prove that duties fit a listed profession or that credentials meet its requirements. L-1 instead needs qualifying foreign employment, company relationships and a qualifying transfer role. E-2 depends on treaty nationality, enterprise ownership, investment and development and direction. Neither category becomes an automatic alternative when the TN nationality condition is missing.
Give the household a factual planning record
Identify current citizenship, relationships and intended activities for each family member. Distinguish official documents from an employer’s assumption or a hoped-for future event. A change in nationality can prompt a new assessment, but does not retroactively authorize work or make every relative eligible. Keep proposed travel and employment dates dependent on the permission actually needed.
