FOR PROFESSIONALS · ESPANOLAEspanola

Your talent.A bigger stage.

For an Espanola applicant, an offer letter and a customer assignment may describe different work. TN preparation should resolve that discrepancy before it becomes a signed support letter. The employer needs to explain the actual temporary professional activity, not simply choose the more favourable document.

IN THIS GUIDE · Resolve two versions of the same employment offer

Start with the TN eligibility and application overview

01

Compare the commitments

Hypothetical example: a Canadian engineer receives an engineering offer, while the assignment schedule emphasizes installation and routine maintenance. Put both records side by side. Identify who wrote each description, which duties will actually be performed and who can authorize a correction. A professional title does not turn a primarily different occupation into a listed profession.

02

Connect the role to the qualification

Once the work is clear, identify the relevant USMCA profession and its exact qualification alternatives. Canadian or Mexican citizenship is required; Canadian permanent residence alone is insufficient. A permitted experience alternative for one profession cannot be borrowed for another. Obtain a reliable evaluation for degrees from institutions outside Canada, Mexico and the United States, and address any US practice-licensing requirements separately.

03

Identify the employer behind the assignment

Record the US entity receiving the services, the employment terms and any intermediary or customer relationship. Disclose ownership and control rather than omitting a shareholding because it seems unrelated to the occupation. Services to a US entity solely owned or controlled by the applicant fall outside the permitted TN arrangement. An interest in a foreign business is not itself a universal disqualification.

04

Release one accurate account

Keep the original versions and a dated explanation of the genuine correction. The final employer account, employment terms and intended temporary activity should agree. Do not delete inconvenient duties solely to fit a profession. A Canadian citizen generally does not require a TN visa, while a Mexican citizen generally does; the appropriate application and admission process still needs review, and no proposed start date authorizes work.

05

Confirm the qualification that the profession itself names

Management Consultant permits a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree, or equivalent professional experience established by a statement or professional credential attesting to five years as a management consultant or five years in a specialty related to the consulting agreement. Canadian citizens seeking TN admission ordinarily present themselves at a port of entry or a preclearance facility with the supporting documents in hand, and no visa is issued in advance; alternatively the American employer files Form I-129 and the approval is presented on arrival. Registered Nurse is one of the professions USMCA Appendix 2 names, and its qualification is a state or provincial licence or a Licenciatura degree. Ask the employer to confirm the technical proportion of the role in writing and ask the applicant to gather licence and transcript documentation specific to their engineering field. Industrial contracting employers often use "engineer" loosely for roles that are properly engineering technologist or technician positions, which sit under a different Appendix 2 entry with its own rules. A field-agronomy position that is genuinely advisory work on crop production is assessed against the agricultural entry and its stated degree requirement, while the same employer's sales-representative or crew-supervisor roles may not correspond to any listed profession at all. If the award was issued under an older program name, obtain a registrar letter that connects the historical name, credential, program length and completion date. A Canadian normally requests TN classification during entry inspection or preclearance; an eligible employer can instead submit an I-129 petition to USCIS.
