L dependent child status does not authorize work. Assistance should be assessed by its actual activity rather than assumed permissible because it is for a parent’s assignment.
Describe the role and physical location
Identify whether the child would prepare materials, instruct attendees or perform another productive task. Unmarried children under 21 may qualify under the dependent rules, but study or family connection does not expand employment permission. Qualifying L spouses have a separate incident-to-status benefit with required evidence; it does not extend to children.
The spouse's authorization follows from L-2 status itself, so the employer in the affiliate's town does not need to wait for a separate approval, though the spouse should hold documentation that evidences the status and should check what a specific employer's onboarding process requires. If the intention is to return, schooling and housing decisions can be made accordingly and the spouse's career planned around a defined period, since employment authorisation ends when the underlying status does. The principal needs a valid L-1B petition based on one continuous qualifying foreign year, related active entities and special or advanced company knowledge connected to the US assignment.
